In a move to promoting gender equality, the management of Rubber Estates Nigeria Limited held a 2-day gender awareness and strategy training which aimed at educating its staff on the importance of promoting equality in their daily activities and in their workplace.

The training was held from Tuesday 17th to 18th of February 2026. The sensitization programme took place simultaneously across the company’s operational sites of Araromi, Osse River, Utagba – Uno, Urhonigbe, Waterside and Adeola. It was attended by the Gender ambassadors, Focal point, union executives, members of the health and safety committee among others.

On his part the Male Gender Ambassador for Urhonigbe, Amb. Efe Adjenuvurhe welcomed participants to the training. He advised all participants to pay attention to details during the training. He then defined the purpose of the gender awareness and strategy training stating that the implementation of the gender equality policy in RENL is to increase productivity in workplace and not to give priority to a particular gender.

He also added that the policy was initiated by SIFCA Group and extended to all other subsidiaries under the group, so participants should help take the message home to their families, friends, neighbour, and colleagues to debunk the belief that the gender equality policy is meant for only women. The policy is meant for all and aims to provide equal rights, opportunities, and treatments regardless of the gender.

During the training in Osse, Amb. Esosa, the female gender ambassador highlighted that gender equality is essential to organizational growth, noting that companies that promote inclusiveness and equal opportunities are more likely to achieve higher productivity and better results.

Amb. Akinde Yemisi, the female gender ambassador to Araromi emphasized that gender equality nurtures respect among colleagues, and that respect is the foundation of a better workplace. She urged all participants to champion gender equality and help create a more inclusive, supportive and productive environment for everyone.

Furthermore, the gender focal point, Ms. Lydia Oduak during her visit to waterside added that the policy is an opportunity for women in the system both at the senior and junior level and aims at changing the stereotyped mindset that women are weaker and can’t do certain jobs.
