Water Resources Management
Water Resources Management at Rubber Estates Nigeria Limited
At Rubber Estates Nigeria Limited (RENL), we understand that water is a critical natural resource essential for our plantations, biodiversity, staff, and surrounding communities. Our approach to water management is focused on responsible use, conservation, and long-term sustainability.
We ensure that water resources are carefully managed to prevent excessive use in operations, while also securing sufficient reserves during the dry season. This is vital not only for rubber cultivation but also for fire prevention and the preservation of biodiversity across our estates.
In line with our sustainability commitments, RENL protects water sources within both plantation areas and High Value Conservation (HVC) zones, including riverbanks and natural habitats. Our key actions include:
-
Prohibiting agrochemicals near rivers and water sources.
-
Preserving and restoring vegetation along riverbanks to prevent erosion and silting.
-
Monitoring water quality regularly to safeguard against pollution.
-
Raising awareness among staff and host communities on the importance of water and ecosystem protection.
Through these efforts, RENL maintains the availability and quality of water while fostering healthier ecosystems that support both flora and fauna. This holistic approach ensures that water remains a sustainable resource for present and future generations.
